Charles S.Pearce retired rail road engineer, died in his home, 1280 E.Condit street early Tuesday morning. He was a veteran of the Wabash and Pennsylvania roads and was one of the best known railroad engineers in central Illinois. He had lived in retirement since he left service with the Pennsylvania five years ago when he was placed on the pension honor roll.
Mr. Pearce was born in Michigan, Mar. 27, 1857, and had been a resident of Decatur for many years. He was married to Miss Ella Mae Griswold in Decatur. Mrs. Pearce died several years ago.
Mr. Pearce leaves the following children, Summer, W.Port, Ind, Harry, Overland, Mo, Charles, Terre Haute, Ind, Frank, Paris, Ill, Fred, Terre Haute, Ind. He also leaves a brother William of St. Louis.
He was a member of Ionic Lodge No 213 AF & AM and of the First Congregational church.
