Chesterton Tribune - January 2, 1897
George Wannegar, one of Westchester's pioneer settlers, departed this life Monday evening at the home of his son Frank, in Porter, aged 73 years. The old gentleman has been an invalid for the past six months, and died of old age. He has been a respected citizen of Westchester for the past 40 years.
He was a native of Germany, and emigrated to this country in 1856, locating at this place. He leaves two children to mourn his death, Mrs. C. A. Anderson and Frank Wannegar, the Porter liveryman.
The funeral was held Thursday, the services being conducted at the Catholic church, and the remains were entered in the Catholic cemetery.
