Mrs. Jack I. Wofford, longtime resident of Athens and ill for the past three years, died at the family home on East Tyler street at 2:20 Monday afternoon. Mrs. Wofford had been in a semi-conscious condition since early Sunday morning.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 at the Methodist Church with Dr. W.G. Fletcher in charge, assisted by Rev. M.L. Fuller, Baptist minister. Burial followed at the city cemetery.
Pallbearers were Travis Todd, Aubrey Boyd, J.E. Tucker, S.B. Jeffrey, Hugh D. Henderson and E.H. Gatlin.
Mrs. Wofford's death followed closely that of her husband, who died May 11th of this year.
Mrs. Wofford was born at Walton, Van Zandt county, September 22, 1880. She was the daughter of the late Dr. Eli Blanchard of Walton and was the last of five members of that family.
Mrs. Wofford first became ill some three and a half years ago. Three years ago she underwent an operation, but it failed to relieve her of her trouble. Last November she underwent a second operation but it too was un-successful and she had been confined to her bed since. She was a patient sufferer.
Mr. and Mrs. Wofford were married in 1932.
Deceased was for many years a faithful member of the Methodist Church and served as the president of the Missionary Society of that church through many of it's early struggles to improve the church property. She also served as Sunday School teacher for many years. In past years she also was active in Parent-Teacher work and had served as president of that organization. Following her marriage to Mr. Wofford, she united with the church of his choice, the Baptist.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. H.T. Howard of Nacogdoches and two sons, Edwin Faulk of Trinidad and Robert Faulk of Athens. Three grandchildren, Wesley McGuffey Jr. and Bobby McGuffey of Athens and Billy Howard of Nacogdoches also survive.
Known affectionately as "Baw" to a wide circle of friends, her death will bring sorrow to all who knew and loved her.
