Representatives of the Elks, Eagles and Royal Neighbor Lodges, as well, as other friends were at the Elks home Wednesday for funeral services Vernie Johnson, 67, Minot, who died Saturday.

Rev. L. H. Rahn participated in the service, conducted by officers of the lodge. Burial will take place in the spring in the Donnybrook cemetery. The Thomas Funeral home had charge of the arrangements.

Formerly a Donnybrook resident for many years, Mr. Johnson moved to Minot 4 years ago and last spring was a Nonpartisan league candidate for the state Legislature from the 29th district,

Mrs. Johnson in Minot, and nine, children are the survivors. All were here to attend the funeral.

Vernie Johnson, 67, of 419 1st NE., a former Donnybrook farmer since 1902, died unexpectedly in a Minot store Saturday..

Vernie Johnson was born in Woodbury County, Iowa, on April 5, 1881, and came to Ward County in 1902 and settled six miles south and two miles west of Donnybrook. His marriage to Louise Koehler took place in 1902, and they continued to live on the farm until 1943, when he and Mrs. Johnson moved to Minot..

Johnson had been a member of his township board, school board, the county Farmers Union board for six years, director of the Donnybrook Farmers Union elevator, was a member of the planning board of the Equity Union Creamery of Minot, a member of the board of Farmers Union Creamery of Minot and a member of the Elks Club of Minot. In 1948 he was endorsed by the nonpartisan league for the house of representatives of the state legislature from the 29th district..

Survivors besides Mrs. Johnson are nine children, three brothers and two sisters. The children are Vernie Jr. who farms the home farm; Leo, Ree township farmer; Chet, farmer south of Leeds, Clayton of Minot; Mrs. Leonard Olson, four miles south of Donnybrook; Mrs. Roy Cinninger of Niles, Michigan; Mrs. Glen Stoa of Seattle; Mrs. Oliver Emerson of Seattle and Mrs. Elmer Menzies of Seattle..

The three brothers are Earl of Donnybrook, Lester of Sioux City, Iowa, and Jess of Ponca, Nebraska. The sisters are Mrs. Ura Headlee of Ponca, and Mrs. Bertha Enders of South Dakota..

Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Minot Elks home with the Rev. L.H. Rahn officiating. Mrs. Mackley was soloist..

Pallbearers were T.H. Luedke, Edgar Moe, S.W. Bond, G.H. Forsaker, R.W. Kennard, E.F. Kounovsky, Albert Thomas and W.C. Waterman. Honorary pallbearers were J.E. Stoa, James Olson, Fred Schwede, Anton Knudtson, August Rockeman, L.C. Larson, Ed Schwede, Herman Schwede, Henry Mathei, Charles Gustafson, William Maag and Val Bott..
