Oleta and her twin sister Oneta were born while their family was on a cotton-picking trip. Their twinness was very important to them during their growing-up years.

Oleta lived near Rochelle in McCulloch County, Texas, until she was eleven years old. The family moved to Runnels County, where Oleta graduated from Content High School in 1937. She married Ralph Raymond Ray at Novice on February 17, 1940, and they raised six children -- three boys and three girls.

In the fall of 1948, they left the farm and moved to Monahans. During the next decade, they followed work in the oil field to Roswell, New Mexico, and Odessa. In January 1959, they moved to a place near Lawn in south Taylor County. Oleta began working as a dorm attendant at the Abilene State School.

Oleta's last move occurred in 1965, when they bought a house in Ovalo. It was there that she lost both her husband and eldest son in December 1987. Her last illness (cancer) caused her death, which occurred at a nursing facility in Abilene. She was buried at Midway Cemetery on what would have been her 52nd anniversary.
