Samuel Boyd Caswell, 92, of Springville, passed away on Tuesday, April 02, 2019 at IU Health Bloomington Hospital.

Born March 18, 1927, in Grayson County, Kentucky, he was the son of Bert Sr. and Sarah “Sallie” (Webb) Caswell.

He married Emma Catherine Peters in 1948, and she preceded him in death in 1982.

Samuel retired from Crane and worked on his family farm.
He was a World War II veteran and a member of the Masonic Lodge American Patriot #750, Oolitic.

Surviving are his children, Samuel R. Caswell, John B. (Melody) Caswell, Dale D. (Penny) Caswell, and Joe A. Caswell; eighteen grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; sisters, Wilma Hern, Anna Francis Carter, and Virginia Sue Funkhouser; brothers, Bert H. Caswell Jr., Jerry Caswell, Oral Thomas Caswell, and Bobby L. Caswell; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; two grandchildren, John D. and Travis Caswell; and siblings, Elsie Sego, Ida Bell Stack, Marjorie Redman, Gilbert Caswell, and two in infancy.

Funeral service will be at 1:30 P.M. on Friday, April 5, 2019 at the Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes. Burial will follow in Gilgal Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded at the graveside by members of the American Legion Gillen Post #33.
Visitation will be from 4-8 P.M. on Thursday at the funeral chapel.
