Elmer Lowell Houghton, 73, a former well known Superior man, died Monday at the Veterans Hospital in Grand Island.

Mr. Houghton served as farm representative of the Security National Bank of Superior from 1951 until he was stricken with a fatal illness nearly three years ago.

Born in Republic County, Kansas, June 25, 1895, Mr. Houghton was the son of Charlie and Minnie Nelson Houghton.

He came to Superior from Concordia, Kan., where he had for many years been active in civic and social affairs of that city.

In Superior he served as president of the Superior Chamber of Commerce and in many other offices of honor and trust. He was a veteran of World War I, had held all of the offices in the local Masonic bodies, was a past president of the Kiwanis Club, and was serving as district lieutenant governor of the Kiwanis until compelled to give up the duties of the office because of illness.

He held a lifetime honor membership in the Superior PTA and was an honorary member of the Future Farmers of America.

Surviving are his wife, the former Nellie Rintoul; two sons, James L. of Oklahoma City and William H. of Detroit Lakes, Minn.; one brother, Lester Houghton of Jamestown, Kan.; two sisters, Mrs. Hans Anderson (Ruth) of Jamestown and Mrs. John Benson (Iva) of Roseburg, Ore.

The funeral service will be at the First Baptist Church in Superior Friday, Oct. 25, at 2 p.m., with Rev. Gordon Harper, interim pastor, officiating, and the Megrue Funeral Home in charge. Interment will be in the Pleasant Hill cemetery (sic) at Concordia.
