Walter Arthur Carico was the fourth child of Laban and Cora Julia Beverly Carico. He served in the Army during World War II.

During WW II he served as a Tech/5 with Headquarters Company, 8th Infantry. Inducted on May 7, 1941 at Roanoke, VA. He was trained as a field lineman. He served in the battles and campaigns of Normandy, Northern France, the Rhineland and Central Europe. His awards: Bronze Star Medal, Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Service Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Ribbon with one Bronze Arrowhead, and the Presidential Unit Citation.

After the war, he worked most of his life in Detroit, Michigan in the automobile industry. He lived near the old homeplace, Mill Creek, Pound, Virginia. He was never married.
