Bro James was said to have been a 50 year member of Golden Fleece Masonic Lodge #89 and an 'Originator' of The Meeker County Historical Society Building that was attached to the GAR Hall in Litchfield Minnesota. He was made a Master Mason at Star in Thee East Lodge #33 Of North Dakota and affiliated with Golden Fleece Lodge #89 in Litchfield 21 Jan 1921-- He and Florence had lived for a time in V elva, McHenry County, North Dakota..

Jim attended an automobile engineering school in Iowa. In 1923 the Atkinson family aquired an outdoor advertising business..selling and setting up large advertizing signs in many Minnesotan Towns.. The business was said to have been sold in 1916..

Bro Jim also was employed as a stionary engineer at the Litchfield Woolen Mills and as a State Boiler Inspector for Meeker County. He served on Litchfields City Council for 12 years and during various time was the President of the Lions club, Meeker County Sportsman club and the Outdoor Advertising Association of the Northern States; Yet he found time to serve on the Municipal Power Commission.

Bro james David Atkinson and Florence celebrated a 50th wedding anniversary 18 Oct 1963. They both had grandparents who moved to Meeker County, Minnesota during the pre statehood days of the 1850's; Both also attended Litchfield High School and both served on The Litchfield Girl Scout and Boy Scout Councils. They had built for family use a Summer Home at nearby Lake Kronis.

In retirement years Jim and Floss enjoyed travel ande spent several winters in Texas.
