Ronald James Altenbach, 78, died at 10:50 p.m. Dec. 13, 2010, at Elmcroft of Lima.

He was born June 24, 1932, in Lima to William L. and Frances M. Gorman Altenbach, who preceded him in death. On Oct. 21, 1955, he married Gladys JoAnn Russell, who died March 24, 1991.

Mr. Altenbach retired in 1994 as a chemical operator from BP Chemical after 38 years. He loved his family, fishing and reading. He was an Air Force veteran serving in Korea.

Survivors include a daughter, Rhonda (George Jr.) Heise, of Lima; two grandsons, Jim (Cheryl) Altenbach and George (fiancée Janelle Smart) Heise III; and two great-grandchildren, Ryan and Austin Altenbach.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, William and Edward Altenbach.

Services will begin at 1 p.m. Friday at Siferd-Orians Funeral Home. The Rev. Tim Burden will officiate. Burial will be in Gethsemani Cemetery, with military rites by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275.
