From "The Minteers As I Have Known Them" by Josephine Minteer Dickinson (1961 limited-edition private printing of 200 copies), youngest and last surviving of William Minteer and Mary Nicholson's 85 grandchildren:

"Married Mary Catherine Easley. John had one of the early cases of polio to be diagnosed as such when he was just a baby and it left him dependent upon crutches. He has a nice business of watch repairing in Kittanning. At one time he made beautiful tooled purses. His cheerfulness and beaming countenance bespeaks a happy life. They are now living in East Butler."

In 1910 he and his parents and sister lived in West Franklin Township. They owned their home, mortgage free. His father was a merchant, selling general merchandise.

In 1920 he and his parents and five brothers and sisters lived on a farm on Slate Lick Road, south of Worthington. They owned their home, mortgage free.

By 1930 his youngest brother had been born and his sister Ruth was married. They owned their home, which was valued at $7000. He and Mary were married March 14, 1938.

In 1940 they and their son Jay lived at 161 North McKean Street in Kittanning, PA, paying $17 a month rent. He was a watch and clock repairman.

In 1950 he and Catherine and their two sons lived in a house in East Butler, PA. John worked as the proprietor of a jewelry store.
