Creech enlisting as a private in "B" Co. NY 9th Infantry (Hawkin's Zouaves) at the age of 21 years old in New York City (9/27/1862). He was wounded in the foot at the 2nd Bull Run, which resulted in the amputation of his foot later in life. He transferred into "C" Co. NY 3rd Infantry on 5/6/1863.
He was wounded at Drewry's Bluff, VA. 5/16/1864 and discharged on 4/16/1865 at New York, NY (US General Hosp, Central Park.)
During his service he was promoted to corporal.
Creech also served as a clerk in the Jersey City Collector's office and predicted his own death when going in for an operation for cancer of the tongue preparing for his own funeral.
