Mrs. Rose Ranville
Funeral services were held Monday morning at St. Francis church, Alverno, for Mrs. Rose Ranville, who died Friday. She was buried in St. Francis Cemetery. She was 82 years old. She was burn in Quebec province, on June 12, 1866. She was married to Joseph Ranville in Quebec at the age of 16 and they came to Cheboygan, living here the rest of their lives.
The pioneer couple was closely associated with the life of the city. He was a blacksmith at first and then went into the hotel business. At different times, he operated what is now the Charles Hotel, the Cass Hotel which stood opposite it, the Commercial Hotel
on Water Street and the Tannery Hotel. They also had a farm in Benton township and the Ranville farm was one of the best known farms in that section.
They had 17 children, eight of whom survive. Mr. Ranville died in 1944.
Mrs. Ranville is survived by the following sons and daughters:
Mrs. Jack Grady, Arthur Ranville, Frank Ranville, Russell Ranville, Miss Phoebe Ranville and Ted Ranville, all of Cheboygan; Albert Ranville of Flint, Joseph Ranville of Houston, Tex. She also leaves many grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She has a brother Dr. Dennis Geffroy, but his whereabouts are not known.
