ANNA MARIE PETERSON
Anna Marie, the first born of twin daughters, was born October 10, 1874 to John and Ellen Almquist, on a farm four miles east of Essex, Page County, Iowa. There she grew to womanhood and married Frank Emil (Lantz) Peterson, February 26, 1896.
There were parents of seven children, the first born daughter died in infancy. Left to mourn her passing are four children, Joe Peterson and Helen Skalberg of Essex; Arnold of Shenandoah, and Mrs. Cabell (Leota) Fisher of Burbank, California; 7 grandchildren; 11 grandchildren; 3 brothers, Charles Almquist, Red Oak; Joe Almquist, Essex, and Albert Almquist, Winterset; two sisters, Mrs. Clarence (Emma) Brown and Mrs. Roy (Hanna) Lindburg, Shenandoah and a host of other relatives and friends.
Her husband, Frank Emil Lantz Peterson, died October 1913. A son, Cpt. Oscar Densel Peterson, gave his life in World War 2 in 1944 and a daughter, Eva Toutelotte died in 1929. Also preceding her in death are her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Almquist; her twin sister, Mrs. Emil (Augusta) Tillman; a sister, Mrs. Frank (Elda) Brown, and three brothers, David, Oscar, and Edd Almquist.
Mrs. Peterson became a member of the Fremont Covenant Church in the days of her youth and was a member of the Shenandoah Covenant Church at the time of her death. She loved to sing hymns both in Swedish and English. She died August 13, at the Clarinda Hospital at the age of 84 years, 10 months, and 3 days.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon August 18, at Hackett Funeral Home in Shenandoah, 2:00 p.m. The Rev. Clarence R. Swanson, pastor of the Shenandoah Covenant Church in charge. Mrs. Clarence Norton had charge of the floral arrangements.
Mrs. Robert Young, organist, accompanied the duet, Mr. and Mrs. R. H. D. Johnson who sang, "Beyond The Sunset," and "Children of the Heavenly Father" or Try gar Kan ingenuity Var" sone verses in English and sone in Swedish.
Casket bearers were Aubrey Berry, Marion Holmes, Wayne Peterson, Marlyn Lindburg, Wendell Peterson, and Howard Youngberg.
Interment was in Mt. Hope Cemetery at Nyman.
