Chase Barbee, 83, of Boise, passed away Monday, December 6, 2010.

Chase was born April 17, 1927 in Boise, to Frank C. and Hazel Barbee. Chase and his wife, Mary Lou, have recently celebrated 59 years of marriage. They were married in St. John's Cathedral in Boise.

Chase attended the College of Idaho his freshman year. Then he enlisted in the Navy from 1945-47. He was stationed at the U.S. Naval Hospital at Mare Island, San Diego, as a Pharmacist Mate Third Class.

After his honorable discharge he attended the U of I where he majored in business and was a member of the S.A.E. Fraternity. He was an enthusiastic golfer and swimmer and was on both the golf team and the swim team. He won several medals from swim meets.

Chase went to work for J.C. Penney's. In June, 1955, he started his career in real estate. He later owned a Century 21 franchise and worked several years beside two of his sons, Scott and Curt. He later retired after 50 plus years.

Chase was an avid outdoorsman: fishing, hunting and camping, which he has passed down to all of his children and grandchildren. He also loved coaching basketball and baseball at Sacred Heart School. He coached his boys, Randy, Scott and Curt, as well as many other kids who always remembered Dad fondly. Golfing was another passion that he had and was always a part of family vacations and celebrations.

A special occasion that will always be treasured by his daughter, Sharon, was their father - daughter banquet and dance at the Elk's Lodge. Through the years Chase was a member of Jaycees, Kiwanis, Knights of Columbus, Board of Realtors and Chamber of Commerce. He attended daily mass at St. Mark's and was a member of a small faith community.

Chase and Mary Lou loved volunteering for many years at the Sun Valley Jazz Festival and Albertson's Nike Golf Tournament with Dick and Rita Anne Williams. They enjoyed traveling around Europe including England, Scotland, Ireland, France, Germany, Italy, Holland, Austria, and Switzerland. Hawaii was another favorite destination which they enjoyed several times. Many joyous times were spent at their condo in Cascade with their friends and family. Their yearly 2-week vacation was spent at the Lawrence Welk Resort in San Diego, which has been passed down to family.

Chase is survived by his wife, Mary Lou (Sedlmayer) and four children and spouses: Randall Chase (Nadine), Scott (Roxanne), Curt (Kris), and Sharon (Brian) Prindle. They have been blessed to have all 26 family members in the vicinity. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Alex and Anthony Barbee, Erin Fuss (Jaramie), Rachel Boyle (Jeremy), Matthew Barbee (special friend, Lauren), Cheryl Barbee (special friend, Peter), Karen Barbee, Chris (Kiah) Prindle, four great-grandsons, Tyson & Auggie Fuss, Ryker and Treyson Prindle. Chase is also survived by a sister, Kay Stratton, and sister and brother-in-law, Rita Anne and Dick Williams and several nieces and nephews: Sue (Alan) Larson, Rick (Shauna) Williams, Ron (Sara) Williams, and Diane (John) Matthews.
