Annise Bortnem, 85 of Brookings, died Friday, December 3, 2010 at Hendricks Nursing home in Hendricks, MN. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 8 at 1:00pm at Lake Campbell Lutheran Church, Rural Volga. Visitation is Tuesday, December 7 from 5pm to 7pm with a prayer service at 7pm at Rude's Funeral Home in Brookings, SD.
Annise Bortnem was born on February 6, 1925 in Lake County, South Dakota, the daughter of Carl and Alvina (Rentz) Thode.
Annise received her education in Rutland, South Dakota and was a graduate of Rutland High School in 1942. She was united in marriage to Victor Bortnem on March 15, 1944 in Watertown, South Dakota. After their marriage they farmed in Brookings County their entire lives.
Prior to moving to the Hendricks Nursing Home, Annise was an active member of the Lake Campbell Lutheran Church. Over her life she taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and was a member of the Ladies Circle Bible study. While in Hendricks, her family appreciated the fine care she received at the nursing home and the visits from Pastor Baun.
Annise had the gift of hospitality. She loved celebrating all holidays, birthdays and other events with delicious meals, baked goods and traditional German and Norwegian delicacies. Her life's work was making her house a home where friends and family could gather and have fun together. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren! A visit was a reason to celebrate. Annise was also especially fond of nature and loved spending time gardening and bird watching.
Annise is survived by a daughter Cynthia Moen (Steve) of Brookings; four grandchildren, Kim Goodfellow of Bruce, Geff (Melissa) Goodfellow of Bruce, Brian Hegdahl of Volga and Stephanie Moen of Sioux Falls; four great-grandsons, Jace, Cade, Chance and Jake Goodfellow ; and one sister, Phyllis Quail (Vernon) of Brookings.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Victor; daughter Trudy Goodfellow; her parents; three brothers and two sisters.
Annise passed at Friday, December 3, 2010 at the age of 85.
