Veteran of the War of 1812.Silas Simmons, along with his wife Janet and their son Thomas, is buried in an unmarked grave that was originally marked with fieldstones which are now piled up at the edge of the cemetery.

Howard Simmons was able to prove that the three were buried here with a reasonable certainty. In 1936 George Simmons (son of Benjamin Franklin Simmons, son of Silas Simmons) took Howard to Old Enon Baptist Church and told him that the three were buried there. At that time the fieldstones were still in place. Howard Simmons died 01 Sep 1999.

A memorial marker was placed by some family members, however, the inscription is not completely correct.

Silas was born abt. 1794 [per the 1850 Perry Co, MS census]. He died between 19 Feb 1856 [the last time he appeared in court regarding his bounty land] and 18 Aug 1860 [when the 1860 census was taken in the area of the county where he had lived].

He was a veteran of the War of 1812 and fought in the Battle of New Orleans. This information is reflected on his bounty land application and warrant.
