Bartholomew Henry was born in Germany, October 22, 1829. Died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Mary Beers, July 13, 1909, age 79 years, 8 mos., 21 days. He moved from Germany to America when yet a boy. He was married to Fannie Powelka at Richmond, Mo., in 1865. Moved to Iowa and lived there. Our country's call was made for volunteers. He joined the 3rd Battery Iowa volunteers light brigade and willingly gave his service. From Iowa, he moved to Decatur County Kansas, where he lived until his death. During his illness, he as patient, never complaining of his sufferings. And when death came, he left us without a struggle, just fell in a peaceful sleep to wake no more. He leaves five children and twenty-three grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and a host of friends to mourn his untimely death. His wife preceded him three months previous. His children are Mrs. Mary Beers, Jennings, Kansas, Mrs. Fannie Bliss, Oberlin, Kansas, Mrs. Emma Keenan, Jennings, Kansas, Mrs. Della Tacha, Norton, Kansas, Mr. Joe Henry, Powell, Idaho. He was a kind and dutiful husband and father and was loved by all who knew him.

The funeral services were conducted at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Beers, by Rev. F. D. Funk, on Thursday afternoon, after which the remains were taken to the Big Timber Cemetery where they were laid to rest by the side of his wife to await the resurrection morn.
