"Leonardville Woman First County Traffic Fatality
Mrs. Molly G. Hedke, 62, Leonardville, became Riley County's first traffic fatality of the year last night in a one-car collision 8 of a mile west of Keats on US24. Mrs. Hedke, a passenger in a car driven by her husband, Henry H. Hedke, was taken to St. Mary Hospital where she died shortly after the accident. Hedke's condition is listed by the hospital as fair. He has not been notified of his wife's death. According to the highway patrol, the car was westbound on US24 in a drizzling rain, when the driver pulled over and hit a concrete bridge at Silver Creek, after being blinded by oncoming headlights. The automobile was totally demolished. Mrs. Hedke was born in Westmoreland November 26, 1898, and was a lifetime resident of this community. She was a member of the Methodist Church at New Randolph, and the Royal Neighbors. She is survived by her husband, Henry Hedke, of the home; two sons, Warren D. Hedke and Marvin M. Hedke, both of Leonardville; one daughter, Mrs. Robert Sroufe, 2448 Himes Drive; five sisters, Mrs. Hallie Graf, Mrs. Charlie Bairow, Mrs. George Miller, Mrs. Jess Schlegel, and Mrs. John Wright, all of Wamego; and two brothers, Walter Simon, Wamego, and Francis Simon, Breckenridge, Colo. Funeral services will be held at the Randolph Methodist Church, at a time which will be announced later. Burial will be in the Randolph-Fancy Creek Cemetery."
