Mrs. Nelle Olney Petit, church leader, dies at 76
Widow of lawyer, banker and philanthropist to be buried tomorrow
Mrs. Nelle Olney Petit, widow of Douglas Eugene Petit, widely known lawyer, banker and philanthropist, died yesterday morning at her home, 407 Oak Street. She was 76 years old.
Mrs. Petit was born in Marcellus and married Mr. Petit there June 25, 1870. During the period of her residence in Syracuse, she was active in the affairs of the First Methodist Episcopal Church, and was the leader for many years of the --- Daughters society of the church.
At the time of his death in December 1925, Mr. Petit was a director of the First Trust and Deposit Company, treasurer of the Onondaga County Savings Bank, vice president of the New York State Savings Bank Association, treasurer and director of the Onondaga Hotel Corporation and a trustee of the Onondaga County Orphans House.
Surviving Mrs. Petit is a daughter, Mrs. Carlton Bates of Detroit Mich., and two grandchildren, Douglas Petit Bates and Miss Anne Carlton Bates.
The funeral will be from the home tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock. The Rev. Dr. (unreadable). Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
