The Normangee Star Thursday, April 2, 1942 Vol. XXX # 17 William Rich Hollis Is Called Home

William Richard Hollis passed passed from this earthly life at 8:45 Friday morning, March 27, at the McKinney City Hospital where he had been under treatment for three weeks for pneumonia and complications.
Funeral services were conducted on Saturday morning at the First Baptist Church in McKinney, Dr. R. A. Clifton and Dr. R. L. Cowan officiated. Deacons of the First Baptist Church, members of the City School Board and Elders and Deacons of the First Presbyterian Church served as honorary pall bearers. Active pall bearers were members of the McKinney Public School system.
The funeral cortege then departed for the boyhood home of the deceased, arriving here about 2 p.m. Saturday. A large group of sympathetic relatives and friends filled the home of Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Hollis to greet the sorrowing family and friends.
The body lay in state at the family home until Sunday afternoon at three o'clock when services were held at the First Baptist Church in the presence of a large group of sympathetic friends and relatives.
Bro. Bullock and Bro. Springfield conducted tenderly in Scripture readings and prayers and spoke of the exemplary life of the deceased.
Appropriately comforting songs were rendered by a choir composed of singers from all the churches in town.
The casket was opened for the many friends to view the face of one whose zenith of manhood had hardly been reached in years, reminding us.
"That leaves have their time to
fall
And flowers to wither at the
north wind's breath:
And stars to set--but
Thou hast all seasons for
Thine own, Oh Death!"
Willis Richard Hollis was born October 27, 1901. He graduated from Burleson Academy in 1919 from Baylor University in 1924. He was married to Miss Beulah Pinson, June 30, 1928. Two children, Ann, aged 9 years and Richard Lee, aged 7, were born to this union. For sixteen years "Rich" as he was lovingly known to all his friends, has been with the McKinney High Schools, and was at the present time Assistant Principal and baseball coach.
Rich was Superintendent of the First Baptist Sunday School of McKinney and was also an ordained deacon and member of the board of deacons. He was known and highly esteemed for his religious and civic activities during his sixteen years of life in McKinney. He leaves a worthy and noble example of the kind on life a young man can choose to live; and leave for others to emulate. Rich was converted and joined the First Baptist Church of Normangee at the tender age of eleven.
To mourn his homegoing to that fairer land are his wife and two children, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Hollis, a brother Leon Hollis and a sister Mrs. Claude Roberts both of San Angelo, and many other relatives and friends.
Interment was made in Hopewell Cemetery with Davis Cozart Funeral Director, assisting the McKinney directors.
Pall bearers were L. O. Wright, Allen Skains, J. W. Martin, B. C. Coley, DeWitte Holleman, C. S. Martin, Odis Ellison and V. C. McDonald.
The floral offerings were lovely and mutely attested the high esteem of the many friends.
The Star joins the host in offerings sympathy and comfort in their sad hour, knowing that "God, who doeth all things best" can, alone, bind up the broken hearted.
"We live in deeds, not years; in thoughts, not in figures on a dial; and he lives best, who has loved best, served noblest." and given to the world his best at all times.
Rich leaves this precious heritage to his family; a noble life, worthily lived.
