Andrew Jackson Hollis was one of a family of ten children born to W. B. Hollis (born in Canon Texas)and Martha Jane Rogers (a native of Rogers Prairie. Tenn.) Two brothers and three sisters preceded him in death. Surviving relatives besides his widow include a daughter, Mrs. Lula Wayne Roberts of Cherokee, Texas, a son Leon Jackson Hollis of San Angelo, Texas, one brother, C. B. Hollis of Normangee; four sisters, Mrs. Dora Floyd of Bronte, Texas, Mrs. Lula Dismukes of Glen Rose, Texas, Mrs. Myrtis Cobb of Fort Worth, Mrs. Nannie Ford of Normangee. Two children had died in infancy. There are also three grandchildren, Ann, Richard Lee and Billy Jack Hollis, children of Mr. and Mrs. Leon Jackson Hollis, and Mrs. Beulah Hollis.
The floral offerings were exquisite bespeaking the high esteem of the many who knew and loved him.
During his early years, by diligent application, Mr. Hollis had fitted himself with a good education and for a period of time was a teacher in public schools, later followed farming and then became a rural mail carrier, which duties he faithfully preformed until he retired from active life two years ago. At an early age he was converted and became a member of the Baptist church. He was united in marriage to Miss Cora Edna Richardson, at Clear Creek, on February 5, 1899.
A good citizen, a loyal friend, and amiable neighbor, Andrew Jackson Hollis will be missed by Normangee and this entire community. The Star joins the many friends of the bereaved family in sympathy at the home going of this beloved husband, father and friend to everyone. Mr. Hollis will be deeply missed from our midst as he walked the accustomed paths of life quietly, bravely and unafraid. Peace to his gentle memory.
