Henry J. Lierz, 94, of Baileyville, KS died Saturday, November 27, 2010 at Crestview Manor care home in Seneca.
He was born July 30, 1916, the son of Joseph H. and Mary Rottinghaus Lierz, on a farm northeast of Seneca. When he was four years old, the family moved to a farm northwest of Frankfort, KS; Henry attended Allison School and helped on the family farm.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the 844th Artillery Division from March 25, 1941 until January 24, 1946. He served at U.S. bases and in England. Following his discharge, he returned to Kansas, worked for farmers in the St. Benedict area, and farmed in the Frankfort area.
On September 12, 1950, he married Patricia Ann Stallbaumer at St. Patrick's Church in Corning. They lived and farmed on the Lierz farm until 1961 when they moved to a farm east of Vilets. In 1979 they moved back to the Lierz home place where they raised livestock and operated a dairy. They retired in April of 1986 and moved into Baileyville.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Church at Baileyville and the Earle W. Taylor Post #21 of the American Legion at Seneca.
Survivors are his wife of 60 years, Patricia, of the home; three sons, Bill, Kenny and Pam, and Jim, all of Topeka; three daughters, Jean and huisband Dan Wrosch of Onaga, Shirley and husband Gary Hulsing of Hiawatha and Connie Lierz of Baileyville; a brother, Raphael Lierz of Frankfort; two sisters, Ann Haverkamp of Corning and Rosanna Haverkamp of Goff; eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two daughters, Mary Jo on August 1, 1957 and Elizabeth Louise on April 5, 1963; three brothers, Cyril, Joseph, and Alvin; and three sisters, Gertrude Wilmot and Genevieve Lierz and Mary Christy.
Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 11 AM Tuesday, November 30, at Sacred Heart Church at Baileyville. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Corning.
