Joseph I. Lierz, 72, Centralia, Kansas died Sunday, November 20, 1994 at the Eastridge Intermediate Care Facility at Centralia.

He was born May 9, 1922, on a farm west of Frankfort, Kansas the son of Joseph and Mary (Rottinghaus) Lierz. He grew up there and attend Allison County School. He worked on the family farm as a young man and later worked for several farmers in the Marshall and Nemaha county areas.

Joseph moved to Falls City, Nebraska, in 1960 and worked as a carpenter and helped manufacture large trailer homes. He
continued to work as a carpenter and in trailer home manufacturing after he moved to Arkansas in 1965 and also after moving to Chillicothe, Missouri, in 1971. He retired in 1986 due to ill health. He was treated at Research Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri and then entered the St. Mary's Manor Nursing Home in St. Mary's that same year. He moved to Eastridge in Centralia in 1990 where he lived until his death.

He was a member of Annunciation Catholic Church at Frankfort, Kansas and was also a member of St. Columban's Catholic Church in Chillicothe, Missouri, from 1971 to 1986.

Survivors include two brothers, Henry Lierz, Baileyville, Kansas, and Raphael Lierz, Frankfort, Kansas; four sisters, Genevieve "Geneve" Lierz, Seneca, Kansas, Ann Haverkamp, and Rosanna Haverkamp, both of Goff, and Mary Christy, Axtell, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Cyril Lierz on October 8, 1972, and Alvin Lierz on March 26, 1990; and a sister Gertrude A. Wilmont on December 9, 1992.

Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated by Father Henry Deters O.S.B. at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 22, 1994, at St. Patrick's Church in Corning, Kansas. Burial was in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Frankfort, Kansas.
