Violet Mae Shaner, 86, of Muncy, died Monday, December 10, 2007, at the Muncy Valley Hospital Skilled Nursing Unit.
Born June 18, 1921, in Lycoming County, she was a daughter of the late George and Anna Pentz Barto. Her husband of 63 years, Arthur C. Shaner Sr., preceded her in death on April 12, 2003.
Violet was a member of the St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Lairdsville. She enjoyed reading, gardening, embroidering and spending time with her grandchildren.
Surviving are three sons, Arthur C. (Mary Ann) Shaner Jr. of Muncy, Lowell R. (Bonnie) Shaner of Turbotville and Mark H. (Robin) Shaner of Hughesville; two daughters, Shirley N. Brown of Unityville and Pauline A. (Jay) Nickles of Muncy; a brother, Rolland "Buzz" (Daisy) Barto of Hughesville; and two sisters, Evelyn Frey of Montgomery and Beverly (Lester) Shaner of Montgomery.
Violet was preceded in death by four brothers, Eugene, Kimber, George and Lester Barto.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville, with the Rev. Carla Volland and Paul Shaner officiating. Burial will follow in Muncy Cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
