RP Belshe is literally chiseled in stone as the name of the person whose body was interred here. However, because of the explanation written in the 'Inscription' section of this Memorial site, I'm nearly 100% sure that his actual name was Benjamin Perry Belshe, ergo, BP Belshe.

Since Belshe family genealogy researchers may actually look for their ancestor as Benjamin Perry Belshe and not RP Belshe, I'm going to change the name on this memorial from RP Belshe to Benjamin Perry Belshe.

I believe that the documentation for the change is sufficient to warrant the change. I further believe that the documentation on this site clearly explains the plausibility of this change.

Inscription

This will be a lengthy transcription/explanation of the headstone.

R.P. Belshe
son of
W. M. & R. A. Belshe
Died Aug. 2,
1883
Aged 14 yrs 9 mos

Calculating his birth date based on the date of death minus the 14 yrs. 9 mos more or less matches the date provided in the Belshe Family Tree book of Dec 17, 1868.

The death date on the headstone and in Belshe Family Tree book match exactly.

The Belshe Family Tree book records the first son of William Madison Harvey and Rosanna Jane Etter as being Benjamin Perry Belshe (BP Belshe). (I'm hoping that RP vs. BP is simply a transcription error from the informant to the engraver.)

The mother of RP Belshe is etched in stone as RA Belshe. The Belshe Family Tree Book has Rosanna as one name, but it's plausible that the engraver might have thought that Rosanna was really Rose Anna, ergo "RA" was what got engraved.

Even with
- a birth date calculated based on death date minus the length of life (14 yrs. 9 mos.), which roughly corresponds the birth date recorded in the Belshe Family Tree book.

- a difference of R as the first initial instead of B for Benjamin

- and using RA for Rose Anna instead of RJ for Rosanna Jane

...it's highly likely that RP Belshe is really Benjamin Perry Belshe (aka BP Belshe)

W.M. and R.J. Belshe were known to have lived maybe even died in Ellis County Texas, though neither of their graves nor records have been found documenting such. It is supposed that they were probably still in Ellis County, when their son Walter Francis was born in 1877. It's further probable that for a few years, they moved to Wise County, Texas as there are 2 of their children buried in that county. Fannie A and William C Belshe both died in very early infancy (in 1885 & 1886, respectively), and they are interred in Anneville Cemetery, Boyd (Wise) Texas, USA.

Benjamin Perry Belshe was the first of 13 children issued by W.M. Belshe and RJ Belshe.

Their 12th child, Stella Lenore Belshe, died at about the age of 2 yrs in 1892, but at this time it's not know where she died.

Gravesite Details

Place of birth (Ellis County) is a guess, but will be updated, if and when better infomation is found.
