Mr. Rufe McWherter, 88 years of age, died Wednesday at his home in Martin, after an illness of the infirmities of advanced age. Mr. McWherter was born and reared in the Palmersville vicinity, moving to Martin many years ago. He was at one time county court clerk of the county, and was a well known and deservedly popular man, a devout christian and loyal to his friends. Surviving are five children, Mrs. Lilla Winstead, Mrs. Tobe McDonald, Miss Georgie McWherter, and Messrs. Gilbert and Claude McWherter. His wife preceded him in death several years ago. The remains were laid to rest at Martin on Thursday.
