Medina Co. Gazette - March 4, 1881: Spencer has lost another of its early pioneers in the death of Mrs. J. H. Welcher, who died Feb 8, after an illness of a few days. She was born March 4, 1811, in Seneca county, N. Y., and had nearly completed her 70th year. She with her husband came to this township in its early days, and 40 years ago this winter, she experienced religion and united with the Freewill Baptist church, since which their home has been a home for the Christian traveler. Had she lived until March 13, they would have reached their golden anniversay, which they contemplated celebrating and meeting their family once more with other friends at the old homestead. "Man propsed but God disposes." She leaves to mourn their loss a husband, three sons and four daughters, besides a large circle of friends. She died in the full assurance of the faith by which she had lived.
