CLARK - Valjean G., 80, Conemaugh Township, Somerset County, died Oct. 11, 2006, at Latrobe Hospital. Born Aug. 3, 1926, in Johnstown, son of William Todd and Mildred Elizabeth Luella (Peer) Clark. Preceded in death by parents; infant brother, Harlan; and daughter, Connie (Clark) Ensley. Survived by wife, May (Sipe), to whom he married on Feb. 17, 1945; and children, Sandra Rogers; Sheila, married to Charles Berger; and Ronald, married to Rosalyn (Giannone) Clark, all of Conemaugh Township; and Patricia Gounaris, engaged to Gregory Johns, Somerset. Also survived by eight grandchildren; eight great-grandsons; two great-granddaughters; and sister, Thelma, married to Edward Scholly, Richland Township. Retired from Bethlehem Steel, 11-Inch Mill, with 42 years of service. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served with the Service Battery, 91st Armored Field Artillery Battalion. Member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Valjean had a strong work ethic and deep devotion to the Mormon Faith. He also left a legacy in scouting, having served as Cub and Scout Master for Troop 183, and was explorer and post advisor and served on the Johnstown District Scout Council. Also a member of the Den Mothers Cub Scout Committee. In his early years, he enjoyed hiking and camping and after retirement he enjoyed reading. In the '60s, Valjean and the scouts went summer and winter camping at Roaring Run Scout Reservation. On July 1969, Valjean was inducted into the Order of the Arrow. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Frank Duca Funeral Home, Westmont Chapel, 1622 Menoher Blvd, where funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Bishop David Rupper presiding. Entombment Grandview Mausoleum. Military graveside rites by Menoher Post 155 Ritual Team. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the surviving spouse.
