Mark Leslie Baty was born in Troy Mills on February 10th 1892 to Andrew Jackson Baty and Alida Jane Fisher Baty. He married Florence Shaffer in 1913 and they were blessed with seven children all born in Troy Mills; Helen , Minor Leslie, Evelyn, Wayne Shaffer, Paul Jackson, Nadine and Ronald. Florence died in 1940. On January 11, 1947 he married Edith (Mae) Williamson.
Mark was a retired farmer and a carpenter in the Troy Mills area and a resident of Cedar Rapids for twenty seven years. He passed away at 5:08 pm on Monday September 18th 1972. Surviving are his wife Mae; three daughters, Helen Larson of Richmond, California, Evelyn Lacock of Cedar Rapids, Nadine Oldridge of Troy Mills; four sons, Minor of Coggon, Paul of Troy Mills, Wayne and Ronald both of Cedar Rapids; two sisters, Bessie Simon of Walker and Nelle Kelly of California; two brothers Dale and Walter Baty both of Walker; twenty-six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
