Mrs. Belva L. "Belle" Smeltzer, 76, Holidaysburg, Pa., died Friday morning Oct. 15, 1999 at Altoona Hospital, following a lengthy illness.

She was born July 18, 1923, in Clearfield, the daughter of the late Charles and Sophie (Kyler) Merritt. She married William J. Smeltzer Feb. 12, 1949, at Lakemont United Methodist Church. Mrs. Smeltzer was a member of West Loop Missionary Church, where she was a member of the Ladies Missionary Society. She was a 1941 graduate of Altoona High School. Mrs. Smeltzer retired as a designer and bookkeeper from Peterman's Florist, Juniata, in 1987. She enjoyed flowers and flower arranging.

Surviving are two daughters: Ruth Walls and Brenda Marks, both of Hollidaysburg, one son, William J. II of Hollidaysburg, one sister Louella Quay of Altoona; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 17, 1999, at West Loop Missionary Church, with Pastor David Foor officiating. Interment will be made at Grandview Cemetery, Altoona, and will be private and at the convenience of the family. There will be no public viewing. The family requests contributions in Belva's memory be made to the West Loop Fellowship Hall, Hollidaysburg, Pa.
