Luella E. Lu' Quay
Luella E. "Lu” Quay, 79, of 1001 E. Walton Ave., formerly of Greenwood, died Tuesday evening, June 12,2001, at Altoona Hospital after a brief illness. She was born March 14,1922, in Surveyor, a daughter of the late Charles L. and Sophie G. (Kyler) Merritt. She married Samuel R. Quay Sr., June 27,1942, at First Methodist Church, Juniata, by the Rev. Herbert W. Glasgow. She formerly was employed by W.T. Grant Co. and Peterman’s Florist. She was a homemaker most of her life. Mrs. Quay was a member of Gethsemane United Methodist Church, Juniata, Chapel Sunday school class and Esther Circle. She also was a member of tho Bernard Albert Good VFW Post 8685 Auxiliary. She was a graduate of Altoona High School, class of 1940. Surviving are her husband; and three children: Samuel R. Quay Jr. and his wife, Sandy, of Altoona, Sharon L. McCartney and her husband. Joseph, of Pittsburgh, Sally A. Forsht and her husband, A. Cromer, of Lititz; seven grandchildren: Samuel R. Quay III, Scott C. Quay, Sara L. McConnell, Sheila B. Powell, Kimberly C. Moll, Gretchen E. Seyfried and Gayle E. Watson; four great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by six brothers and sisters: Margaret Albright. Ann Gutshall, Edith Shannon, James Wagner, John W. Merritt and Belva L. Smeltzer. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday and IO to ll a.m. Saturday at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home Inc., Juniata, where funeral services will be held at ll a.m. Saturday by the Rev. George R. Mauk. Interment at Grandview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the building fund of Gethsemane United Methodist Church.
