"Mrs. Polly Johnson of Eugene Township, Vermillion County, IN, died on Sunday, April 2, 1876, in the 82nd year of her age. She emigrated to this county from Ohio with her father, J.W. Tipton, in the year 1822, in the 18th year of her age, and therefore was exposed to all the hardships of a frontier life. Her father settled on the Wabash River in Vermillion County where this good old mother has led a pious and exemplary life.
Mrs. Johnson is the mother of 6 children, all of whom she raised to manhood and womanhood. She was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church for 35 years, and belonged to old Father Ashmore's little band of Christ's followers at old Mt. Zion. This good old mother died in the triumphs of a living faith, and is now gone up higher to that mansion that was prepared for her from the foundation of the world." - Newport Hoosier State, Thursday, April 13, 1876
