The Chico Enterprise, no date: "Death of An Old Settler Benjamin F. Parrish Breathes His Last --- Has Been a Constant Resident of This Vicinity Since 1853 -- Finally Succumbed to Paralysis. This morning at 2 o'clock, Benjamin F. Parrish, who has resided in the vicinity of Chico since 1853, breathed his last at the family home, 2 1/2 miles north of this city, on the Shasta road. Deceased suffered a stroke of paralysis about six months ago, and despite the best medical skill obtainable, he has gradually declined ever since the affliction came upon him. During the past two weeks the flame of life has been so low that death had been expected at any time, yet his remarkably strong constitution kept him up until the hour above stated.

"Deceased was a native of Knox county, Ohio, where he was born March 16, 1835, and eighteen years later he removed to California, locating in Butte County. Here he married and has reared a family of five sons and four daughters, all of whom, with the wife, survive him.

"He was a man who enjoyed the respect of the entire neighborhood in which he had resided so long, and the wife and children have comfort in the fact that he was always a kind and indulgent husband and father. The funeral services will be held at the late residence tomorrow (Thursday) at 2 o'clock, Rev. Hughes, of the Christian church officiating."
