ANNA BEELAR
Daughter of .....
[BO]RN
{Marc]h 13, 1803
DIED
April 14, 1879
NOTE:
Anna Beelar or Beeler, daughter of Jacob Beelar (1750-1843), was born in 1803 and was living as late as 30 December 1878 when she gifted her real estate to her nephew Elkanah Boling stating that she had received the land from her father in his will. The two parcels totaling 220 acres had been purchased by Jacob Beeler in 1794 and 1796.
Anna Beelar could not have died in 1829 as some have read her existing tombstone. The unusual carving of Anna Beeler's tombstone in Sullivan County has led to confusion about her identity. Anna's birth as recorded in Jacob Beeler's Bible gives her birth date as March 14, 1803 which is close to that on her tombstone "... h 13, 1803". The stone carver added a prominent footing to the base of the digits 1, 4 and 7, all of which have vertical members. Other digits have rounded tops such as 3, 8 and 9. The digit 2 ought to have a rounded top as well. Adding a footing to "7" makes it resemble a "2".
