Samuel Harford, 85, Native of England, Lived here 40 Years

Samuel Harford died late yesterday afternoon at his home, 499 Mason Street after a two weeks' illness. For 30 years he was an employee of the Woonsocket Machine and Press Company. He retired when the company closed ten years ago.

Born in Trowbridge, Wiltshire, England - Sep 3, 1853, a son of Mr. & Mrs. John Harford, he arrived in the United States when a young man and worked in Worcester, MA for two years before coming to Woonsocket. His first wife, Clara Webb Harford, died in 1928 [gas poisoning] and in 1932 he was married to Lucy Barrows, the ceremony being performed by Rev. John M. Wathen, at that time, pastor of the Globe Congregational Church.

Besides his second wife, he leaves a son, Nelson S. Harford of this city, three daughters, Ethel C., wife of Everett Fuller; Ellen G., wife of Samuel Oakes of Woonsocket; and Florence, wife of John Winterbottom of Nashua, NH. He also leaves nine grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and a nephew. A ten-year-old grandchild, Charles Harford of Greenville, died Thursday of last week.

Mr Harford was a member of the Odd Fellows and was a parishioner of the Globe Congregational Church.

Funeral Services will be conducted Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock at his late home and Rev. John M. Wathen, pastor emeritus will officiate. Interment will be in Union cemetery. Calling hours at the home will be from 7 to 10 tonight and 2 to 5 and 7 to 10 p.m. tomorrow.
