TARBORO -- Frances Bateman Triplett died on December 1, 2005 at Heritage Hospital, Tarboro. She was the fourth child among the six children of Mattie Swain and James Henry Bateman of Columbia, NC. Mrs. Triplett was graduated from Columbia High School and Keys Business School in Norfolk, VA. For several years, she worked with the Norfolk-Portsmouth Bridge Corporation. In 1937, she married John Glover Triplett, Jr. of Norfolk. Following 29 years together, he died in 1966. In 1983, she entered The Albemarle Retirement Community in Tarboro as one of its first residents. She lived there for 22 years until her death. Mrs. Triplett was active in her church throughout her life. At one time, she served as President of The Presbyterian Women and of the Norfolk Presbyterial. Predeceasing her in death were her husband; a sister, India Bateman Robbins, Greensboro; three brothers, James Henry Bateman, Jr., Columbia, Rodney Swain Bateman, Columbia, and Dr. Joseph C. Bateman, Greenville.

Surviving her are a sister, Laura Bateman Lawrence of WinstonSalem; two nieces, Dr. Joyce Bateman Giglioni of Starkville, MI, Mrs. Jean Robbins Hoak of Kansas City, MO; and three nephews, Mr. Lionel C. Bateman of Columbia, Mr. R.S. Bateman, Jr. of Manassas, VA, and Dr. John E. Lawrence, Jr. of Asheville.

A graveside service will be conducted on Tuesday, December 6 at 11:00 o'clock at Forest Lawn Cemetery, 8100 Granby Street, Norfolk, VA, with the Rev. Mr. Christopher Edmonston of Tarboro officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Howard Memorial Presbyterian Church, 303 E. St. James Street, Tarboro, NC 27886.
