Mrs. Martha Smith of Grant Dies at Her Home There
Mrs. Martha Smith died Sunday afternoon at her home in Grant where she had been ill since January 27 when she was found unconscious and almost frozen. She lived alone. It is thought she suffered a stroke of paralysis and that she had lain several hours before she was found by Roscoe Kenworthy who went to look after her fires, as was his daily custom.
Funeral services for Mrs. Smith were held Wednesday afternoon at the Methodist Church in Grant with the Pastor, the Rev. Frank Moore, in charge. Burial was in the Grant Cemetery.
Martha Westlake, daughter of William L. and Lucinda Westlake, was born August 19, 1855, in Union County, Ohio. She came with her parents to Grant in 1858, and since that time she has resided in that locality.
She was married to George W. Smith on August 19, 1876, at Grant and to this union one son, Bert, was born. Her husband died February 14, 1914, and the son preceded her in death February 4, 1933. She is survived by a step son, Sammy Smith of Sciola, Nebraska and several nephews and nieces.
