Funeral services for Mr. Grady W. Bates, 95, of West Monroe, LA will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 17, 2010 at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in West Monroe. Rev. Charles Martindale will be officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home.
Mr. Bates was born in Eros on September 28, 1915 and died November 14, 2010 in West Monroe. Mr. Bates was a member and deacon at First Baptist Church of West Monroe. He also was a member and past Master of Eros Lodge #295 Free and Accepted Masons. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp and Army and served three years during World War II. Mr. Bates was a retired ironworker and member of Iron Workers Local #710 of Monroe, LA.
Mr. Bates was preceded in death by his wife, Lorelis P. Bates; his mother, Mrs Myrtie Ashford; three sisters, Atrell Ashford, Virginia Flanagan, Juanita Steel; Inez Aswell; and a brother, Don Ashford.
Survivors include his daughter Karen Bates; son Bill Bates and wife Jan Bates; two granddaughters and four great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
