Robert Jackson "R.J" Jent the son of James Madison "Matt" Jent and Sally Harris Jent was born in Cheatham County, Tennessee on December 17, 1851. He departed this life around 8:45a.m., February 22, 1947, at the home of his daughter Mrs. Samnatha J. "Mallie" Smith (Leander "Lee" Smith) of 901 East Oak Street, West Frankfort, Illinois. Prior to this address, he lived at the home of his grandson, Clyde Smith, 807 East Oak Street, for approximately twelve years.

At the age of 95 years, two months and four days, he had the distinction of being the Oldest Male resident of West Frankfort, Illinois. Mr. Jent had been ill since the Sunday prior to his death when he suffered a light stroke of paralysis.

Until that time he was a familiar figure on Main Street of West Frankfort and was easily identified by his lengthy white beard. He was a retired farmer and carpenter being well known by people in and around the Johnston City and West Frankfort area.

"Uncle Bob", as he was known, came to Illinois in February 1863, and settled east of Johnston City. He was married to Fredonia Felts on September 1, 1872; she predeceased him on November 1, 1910. To this union seven children were born, three (Nancy, Tressa, Nora) having preceded him in death. Four Children: Samantha J. "Mallie" (Lee) Smith, James William "Will" (Anna) Jent, Henry Webster "Webb" (Rista) Jent, Benjamin Troy "Troy" (Gertie) Jent; Fifteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren survived him.

On April 15, 1912, "Uncle Bob" was married to Drusilla Marks. She passed way in 1922. Then in 1924 he was married to Amanda J. (Duncan) Felts, who died in 1933.

"Uncle Bob" accepted Christ as his savior many years ago at the Lake Creek Baptist Church, Williamson County, Illinois. Here he was baptized and remained a member the remainder of his life. While residing in the West Frankfort community he attended the First Baptist Church of this city.

The body lay in state at the Reedy Funeral Home. Funeral services were held at the First Baptist Church, West Frankfort and were conducted by Rev. T.H. King and Rev. Floyd Jent. Interment followed at the Lake Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, southeast of Johnston City.
