Car Lands Atop Fence Post, Body of Driver 30 Feet Away
Joseph Paul Holbert, 33, was killed instantly in a freak automobile accident Saturday night, three miles north of New Haven on U.S. 31E.
Driving alone toward Bardstown, his car went out of control at a wide sweeping curve and appeared to have rolled over several times before coming to stop atop a fence post, six feet north of the car. Coroner John N. Johns said his neck was broken.
Holbert was returning to his home at Bardstown from the New Haven picnic about 9 p.m. Coroner Jones, enroute to the picnic, happened on the accident shortly after it occurred.
Holbert was employed in Louisville. He had moved to Bardstown only two weeks ago. At one time he was employed by the City of Bardstown. He was born and reared near New Haven.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Emily Wilson Holbert; a nine- months- old son, Joseph; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Will Holbert, near New Haven; nine sisters and brothers, Mrs. Casper O’Hare, Mrs. C.M. Ritchie, Jr., Mrs. Frank Smith and Mrs. Arthur Newton, Bardstown; Francis Holbert, New Haven; Casper, Lee Bertis, and Andrew Holbert and Mrs. William McCubbins, all of Dayton, Ohio.
Funeral services were held from the Mann, Greenwell & Arnold Funeral Home and at 4 p.m. Monday at the Bardstown Baptist Church, Rev. Durham officiating. Interment was in Bardstown Cemetery.
Pallbearers were C.M. Ritchie, Jr., Jerry Bessinger, James Wilson, M. Maraman, Casper O’Hare and William McCubbins. (News cut of automobile picture not received before deadline.)
