Minnie was a daughter of Joseph Monroe Alsup and Jessie Jane Joplin. She married Rev. Powell Sojourner. After her death, her husband Rev. Powell Sojourner married as his 2nd wife Mrs. Lottie B. Mounce Alsup, widow of James Solomon Alsup, a brother of Minnie Alsup.
