Sidney Ray Lonas, 82, of New Market, Virginia, and formerly of Basye, Virginia, died Wednesday, November 10, 2010 at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg.
Mr. Lonas was born February 29, 1928 in Basye, VA, son of the late Albert Jacob Lonas, Sr. and Viola Tusing Lonas.
He served in the United States Army and was a member of Smith Creek Regular Baptist Church in New Market.
Mr. Lonas is survived by his wife, Velma Lonas; a daughter, Joyce Blevins of Edinburg; two sons, David Lonas of Basye and Sidney Michael Lonas of Strasburg; two sisters, Janet Sine of Front Royal and Catherine Golladay of Basye; three brothers, Albert Lonas, Jr. of Harrisonburg, Eugene Lonas and Randolph Lonas both of Basye; eight grandchildren; and one great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Alisa Lonas Hottle; and a sister, Arlene Ward.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Smith Creek Regular Baptist Church with the Rev. Brent Hockema officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Zion Church Cemetery in Luray.
Pallbearers will be Albert Lonas, Jr., Eugene Lonas, Donald Blevins, Randy Lonas, Jerry Golladay and Joseph Montz. Honorary pallbearer will be Sidney Michael Lonas.
The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Dellinger Funeral Home in Mt. Jackson.
