Millard Scholer services held June 29

Services for Millard Russell Scholer, long-time resident of Steamboat Springs, were held at the Root Mortuary Chapel at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 29, 1976. They were conducted by Father David Croak. Interment was in the Steamboat Springs cemetery. In charge was Elk Mountain Lodge No. 118, AF & AM.

Henry Zehnef, accompanied by Ayliffe Zehner on the organ, sang ' Rock of Ages" and "The Little Church in the Wildwood."

Pallbearers Were Glen Cox, Philmore Cox , Larry Brown, Jerry Bowen, Lon Vanatta, James McDermott and Vernon Summers. Honorary pallbearers included Glen Johnson, Leland Harms, Cyril Barber, Winston Spangler, Aldis Klumker, Lloyd Williams, Vale Ellis, Raymond Muirhead, M.A. Compestine Jr., Donald Lufkin, Maurice Selbe, Bill Allen, Marvin Scott, Francis Kelly, Eldon Brobeck, Henry Rehder and Hans Wulff.

Millard passed away at the Routt County Memorial Hospital on June 27, 1976 following a brief illness. He was 71 years old at the time of his death.

Born on December 20, 1904, in Portland, Indiana, he was the son of John and Mary Etta Thurman Scholer.

Raised in Indiana, he went looking for work in Detroit and was employed at the Chrysler and General Motors plants. Five years later, in 1931, he decided that city life was not his kind of living. He packed up and started west, finally settling in Steamboat Springs.

It was here he met Vada McDermott. They were married in Littleton, • Colorado on March 3, 1938. Millard bought the Phillips "66" station from lA*onard Fisher in November, 1955, and added the bulk plant in 1961. Vada did the bookkeeping for the business.

He retired in 1969 and has since been working part time at Hilltop Service Station.

He was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Portland, Indiana, the Masonic Lodge of Portland, the Steamboat Springs Chamber of Commerce and the Steamboat Springs Kiwanis Club. He had served as a director for the Chamber of Commerce.

Surviving are his widow; two .i brothers. Merle Scholer and Dale Scholer of' Portland, Indian#; three sisters, Helen Fisher of Shelbyville, Indiana, Dorothy Sherman of Portland and Doris Davis of Stantonsburg, North Carolina. He was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.
