Aunt Ruby was born to Basil Alexander and Sarah Isabelle Gilmore Rogers in Bellefonte, Arkansas. She was one of 11 children which consisted of 4 girls and 7 boys. She was married three times,first to L T Valentine in Boone County, Arkansas on January 5, 1914. She then married Andrew Jackson "Jack" Kelley on October 2, 1915 in Muskogee, Muskogee County, Oklahoma. In this union they had two boys, both who died in infancy. Jack died three years later of pneumonia during his military service in World War I. Ruby then married Burg Givens Hughes on July 3, 1925 in McIntosh County, Oklahoma. Ruby and Burg later divorced.
