John H. Bird, 66, lifelong resident of Dewitt county, passed away Sunday at the home of his son-in-law, Walter Evans, six miles east of Wapella. Death followed a paralytic stroke suffered about 10 days ago. The deceased was born in Dewitt County, February 18, 1866, the son of Alexander and Elvira Bird. He was united in marriage to Rachel R. Beatty in this city, June 14, 1888, and to this union two children were born, Mrs. Walker Evans and Mrs. Ira Miller, both of whom survive. He is also survived by the widow and the following brothers and sisters: Frank and George, Greeley, Colo.; James, Darlington, Mo.; Taylor, International Falls, Minn.; and A. J., Mrs. Grant Myers and Mrs. E.J. Bennett of Clinton. Two brothers and one sister preceded the deceased in death. He was a member of the Shiloh United Brethren church. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at Birkbeck with Rev. Hutchinson officiating. Burial will be made in Woodlawn Cemetery. The body was taken to Reeser's Funeral Home and prepared for burial. [Unknown Source]
