JAS. M. BIRD IS DEAD

Jas. M. Bird, former well known
citizen of the Albany and Darling-
ton communities, died at the Cot-
tage hospital in Oildale, Calif., on
last Wednesday, Oct. 18. He had
been living in Bakersfield, Calif.,
with his son, Cleao Bird.

The remains were brough back
to Gentry county and funeral ser-
vices were held last Saturday aft-
ernoon at 3 o'clock from the
Brooks Funeral Home, conducted
by the Rev. A. L. Christian, of
Darlington. Interment was in the
Grandview cemetery.

The following obituary has been
furnished this newspaper:

Jas. M. Bird was born on June
14, 1864, near Weldon, Ill., where
he grew to manhood.

He was married on Dec. 11, 1889,
to Ella Pink Crisman and they
moved to Wilcox, Nebr., where
they lived for 13 years. One son,
Cleao, was born to this union on
Sept. 13, 1890.

The family moved to a farm
north of Albany in 1905 and in 1915
the family moved to a farm south
of Darlington. Mrs. Bird passed
away there on June 25, 1918.

Mr. Bird continued to live on the
same farm with his son and his
family until April 7, 1946, when
he went to Bakersfield, where he
had since lived with his son and
his family.

For the past one and one-half
years, Mr. Bird had been in fail-
ing health, but through the entire
time he was very patient and
cheerful.

He was one of a family of 11
children. Besides the son, he is
survived by two sisters, Mrs. Dora
Meyers and Mrs. Emma Bennett,
both of Clinton, Ill., and by two
grandchildren and five great
grandchildren, besides other rela-
tives and many friends.
