TRIED DEATH FOUR TIMES.
Mrs. Edith Hedberg's Husband Saw Her
Take the Last and Fatal Draught.
For years, Mrs. Edith Hedberg kept poison about her home, daring anybody to remove it. She made three attempts at suicide, but was saved by doctors. Last night she tried again and died.
Edith and Gustav Hedberg had been married nine years. Sunday night they quarreled and decided to separate. She took her children, Athene, 8 years old, and Cecil, 4 years old, to her mother, Mrs. E.H. Burger, 703 East Eleventh Street, yesterday morning, on her way to Jackson's laundry, where she worked.
After her day's work, at about 7 o'clock, she returned home. Her husband was in the kitchen. She poured the contents of a four-ounce bottle of carbolic acid into a tin cup.
"Here's where I end it all," she said. Her husband started to stop her, but she waved him back, saying she would pour the acid on his face. He stepped back and watched her drink it. Then she staggered out the back door and down the alley about 200 feet, where she fell.
The Hedbergs came from Clay Center, Kansas, to 3031 Prospect Place, five weeks ago. Hedberg is a carpenter. Mrs. Hedberg was 27 years old.
