Harrison W. Bolender came to Stephenson Co. with his parents in 1840. After completing courses in the Oneco Twp. schools he was enrolled at the University of Wisconsin. After completing two years of study he enlisted in Co. A, 48th Illinois Infantry. He was severly wounded at Shiloh and discharged honorably after a lengthy time in hospital.
Upon returning home he taught school for twelve years. He then entered the creamery business for the next twelve years with operations in Orangeville, Pearl City, Winslow and Rock City.
In 1891 he was elected justice of the peace and in 1896 clerk of the circuit court. He had won re-election just prior to his death.
In addition to being a Master Mason he was a member of the GAR and many other fraternal organizations. (Extracted from his obituary, Orangeville Courier, Nov. 17, 1900)
