Upon returning home he taught school for twelve years. He then entered the creamery business for the next twelve years with operations in Orangeville, Pearl City, Winslow and Rock City.
In 1891 he was elected justice of the peace and in 1896 clerk of the circuit court. He had won re-election just prior to his death.
