John was born 1882 in Spring Hollow to John Wesley and Martha Ann (Atchley) Garner, the third of eleven children. Family story is that John was married and his wife died and a baby daughter was adopted out. When John's brother Tom was killed in 1926. John came to help Tom's wife Elizabeth (Crabaugh) Garner, and two daughters Laley and Nezie. He married Elizabeth 1 Oct 1927 The spent the rest of their lives together. John's death certificate indicates he was buried in the New Hope Cem. The grave is unmarked.
